Your time is tick, tick, ticking away
Jesus, has it really been this long?
And I’m sure that all y’all missed me, right?
Lessee… in the last few months, Our Lady Of Perpetual Motion has moved in to accolades from both children and grown-ups in the house. Tattooed Dad’s gotten promoted to genius (see, it’s not sarcasm), Oldest child has gone back to school, smallest child has potty trained (go OLPM!!!), we’ve had our annual Samhain party, our dear friend has been hospitalized with a huge medical issue, another friend has finally caught pregnant after a long time trying, A stray cat came into our life (hello Setzer!), I’ve been working *way* too much, I’m back in touch with my Um-Friend, my MIL and BIL and SIL and niece have all moved to Florida, (I think there’s some sort of physics principal at work there, only one grandmother in the area at a time, but I’m not 100% sure), the election is over, and oh-thank-god it worked the way it did, the outside hallway wall has been demolished and insulated and sheet-rocked, Tattooed Dad is working hard on finishing our attic bedroom, Moonspun ran her first 1/2 marathon (I’d rather die, but boy do I admire the hell out of her for doing it), and turkey day is fast approaching.
Whew.
Life in a nutshell.
Meanwhile, I haven’t had the interest or wherewithal to blog. I haven’t had much time to do anything I enjoy really (I’m still working on my spinning for a it-was-meant-to-be-a-surprise holiday gift for my friend, and my knitting has hit another roadblock, ditto blogging etc) what with work and all.
Tattooed Dad and I did, however, get to the rescheduled Nine Inch Nails show we had gotten tickets to ages ago. It was amazing. Even though we were on the floor in General Admission. Yes, I got to play “smush in the crowd” with a zillion other screaming, sweating, swearing fans. I have been a fan for nearly 20 years (and how it hurts me to say that) and have seen Trent and company several times, and he just keeps getting better. The crowd was really mixed, with young teens all the way through 40+ somethings (which horrifyingly is becoming my demographic). The show was intense, loud and at several points nearly orgasmic. I was approximately 20 feet from the stage, right in the center although the rip-tide of the crowd pulled me pretty far stage left to where Robin Finke was playing guitar (and he was amazing himself, and gorgeous to boot) and back again. I am fascinated by Reznor’s vision. Both his intense, violent, rage filled music and his incredible sound-scape instrumentals. I desperately wanted to get to the front just to make eye-contact… I am enamored desperately. And mostly by what’s between his ears (okay, I’d fuck him in a white hot second as well, but that’d be icing on the cake…I’d take a conversation with him over sex every time). The show included an intense light show on three screens that defies description and a wildly diverse set list.
Years ago, I saw NIN at the same venue and Adam Ant, one of my all-time favorite artists came out as a surprise guest and did “Physical (you’re so)” with Trent. I’ve since seen Trent with David Bowie, which was also amazing. This time, we got treated to Peter Murphy (Bauhaus, for those not in the know) who sang “Reptile” with Trent. It was absolutely fantastic. The show ended with a song from NIN’s Year Zero album (which I’ve raved about here previously) and each member of the band bowing out, one at a time, until just Trent sat playing keyboards. Then, he raised his hand and the stage went black. It was stunning.
I left the show bruised, dehydrated, sweaty, with blisters from my doc martens and happy as a piggy…I felt like a kid again, and it was fine. I know I’m not a kid anymore, and I’m just as happy not to be anymore, but there are some things I miss about it…like this. And having wild, get-your-freak-on-sex until the wee hours where you didn’t care if your neighbors heard you.

SOOOOOO Good to read your blogging again! I missed it, though I get to communicate/see you with other things.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:27 pmI am glad you and TD had a great time with NIN. I am sure you’ll always loved them, even as we get older and the bruises are longer to heal!
